Moving Day is Coming Soon...

It looks like we have indeed found our home and property for our Little Birch Nature Preschool!  We are currently waiting to sign the paperwork and should start moving in April 1st.  It is a three bedroom home on 40 acres, across the street from a dairy farm.  The inside classroom space will be in the open living room/kitchen area that has two sliding glass doors looking out at the farm and Worcester Mountains and also leading onto a deck that could extend the classroom space in nice weather.

I just got off the phone with the sweet-as-pie owner of the place and he asked what color we wanted the walls painted as he and his wife were on the way to the paint store.  We will all be very busy in the next few weeks and months painting the inside and out and getting this sweet home ready to welcome a happy group of young children.  I especially can't wait to transform the yard into a natural play area and further explore the meadows and forest.   We will likely have a community work day on a weekend in May and also an open house on another day that month.

While I will wait to announce the exact address until everything is "official" I will say that it is in Morrisville, Vermont, not far from the Green Top Market.  It is nicely centrally located in Lamoille County.

Distance to village centers of:

Morrisville: 3 miles, 8 minutes

Stowe:  11 miles, 20 minutes

Johnson:  6 miles, 15 minutes

Hyde Park: 4.5 miles, 10 minutes

If you would like to help us get started in any way you can have a look at our “wish list” on the tab to the right.  There is a link to our online "wishpot" as well.

We really appreciate all of the community support and interest.  Spread the word!  Enrolling soon!

Friday Parent-Child Nature Group

We are currently enrolling for our next parent-child nature group session.
Dates:  Fridays, March 8th to April 12th from 10-11:30.
See the tab to the right for more information.
Make sure to RSVP and let me know if you have any questions!
Hope to see you there!

This session we will likely enjoy the transition from winter to spring.  How fun to spend a day each week in the same natural area, watching with joy as the land is first covered in snow, and notice as the snow melts to make way for the wildflowers and other new life in the forest and meadows.

Help Little Birch Find a Permanent Home!!

Help LITTLE BIRCH find a permanent home!  We are looking for a home and property to settle down on and house our Nature-based Waldorf-inspired childcare program.  Hope to move in the late spring or early summer in time to run summer programming and then begin our school year program in September.  Please spread the word and help with our search!!  Here is our wish list:

I am planning on starting a small home-based childcare program next school year and am looking for the perfect property.   I am most interested in long-term rentals, but may also be interested in beginning to look at buying this spring/summer or next.  My hope is to have 5-6 children a day in my care ages 3-5.  My partner Phil and I have been renting together for almost 10 years and are very responsible and clean.  We are both educators in the area.

Looking for:

Rental agreement starting in late spring/early summer

2-3 bedrooms, small house/cabin

Ample closets, and/or storage space, and/or garage/outbuildings

Nice spacious land with good size yard for garden and play and bordering forest for walking and playing.  Forest can be part of property or just border us with permission to use.

If a rental, permission to put up tidy and temporary fencing as well as a few simple, natural looking play structures such as a sandbox.

We would love a woodstove if possible

We have a very sweet, mellow, well-behaved 5 year old chocolate lab so pets would need to be allowed.

Property preferably in Stowe

We will have our own renters insurance and also liability insurance for the business.

I would love to hear from you with any questions, comments, or properties that may be in line with what we are looking for.

Thank you very much for your assistance,

Laura Karstensen

Parent-Child Nature Group

Our Friday morning parent-child nature group has been so much fun!!  We have met twice so far.  Adults and children alike have enjoyed taking a leisurely walk through a magical feeling forest while exploring the thick green moss, insects, hidden passageways under low branches, and fairy houses along the way.  The children climb over fallen logs, sit upon boulders, and build and discover homes to play in.  Last week we collected beautiful red and yellow maples leaves and made leaf crowns.  Every week we sing and see a puppet show as well.  What a nourishing morning!  Contact me if you'd like to join!  Libra510@aol.com
